Returning to Orbit: Leo Finds His Way Through Childhood Stress
Step into the world of childhood stress, where parents struggle to help their children navigate overwhelming emotions. In her insightful book, Returning to Orbit, child therapist Jenny Simon offers a valuable resource for families, teachers, and therapists. Drawing on her experience as a trauma therapist, Dr. Simon crafts a powerful children's story to address mental health and resilience. Meet Leo, a relatable 9-year-old boy on a journey to manage family tensions and loneliness with the help of his loyal dog, Jupiter. Overwhelmed and struggling, Leo eventually finds guidance from a child therapist who helps him develop coping strategies and discover his own resilience. This book carries an important message: "You are not broken, and asking for help is perfectly okay." Returning to Orbit is suitable for kids ages five and up, with a reading level appropriate for children aged nine to twelve. Order your copy of Returning to Orbit today! Are you going to kill me or feed me?
An Exploration of the Autonomic Nervous System and Polyvagal Theory The Science of Consciousness Conference (online) September 2020 We are human animals with an ancient scanning system (our autonomic nervous system) designed to keep us safe. It can tell in 3 seconds whether we trust someone. This same system dictates our reactions (i.e. behavior) outside of our logical thinking brain. The goal of this talk is to increase our understanding of the ancient scanner so that we can feel calmer and less judgmental toward ourselves. We will review how fear is triggered and how we can self-soothe using the Polyvagal theory.
